Dexter alum Michael C. Hall has been cast to play a major role in the upcoming The Crown season 2. Learn the details of his part here.
Hall will portray the role of the late US president John F. Kennedy. He will be joined by Quarry star Jodi Balfour as Jackie Kennedy.
The Crown creators described JFK as a natural leader and brilliant public speaker who does not like being upstaged by anyone even by his wife, Deadline wrote. Jackie Kennedy was noted as “a seemingly natural First Lady, but whose charming exterior of confidence and glamour hides a shy woman who loathes public life.”
Hall was last seen on television portraying the role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s highly-acclaimed series, Dexter. The actor won a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as a police blood-spatter analyst who moonlights as a serial killer/vigilante.
Aside from Hall and Balfour, Downton Abbey actor Matthew Goode also joins the cast as Princess Margaret’s (Vanessa Kirby) photographer husband, Anthony Armstrong-Jones. Margaret and Armstrong-Jones, better known as Lord Snowdon, tied the knot in 1960. The couple divorced in 1978 after 18 years of marriage.
The Crown Season 2
The forthcoming season will pick up in the 1960s when Queen Elizabeth II loses her third prime minister, Harold Macmillan, to scandal while her Armed Forces wages an illegal war in Egypt.
The Crown creator Peter Morgan previously said that season 2 will end in 1964. “We leave behind a certain kind of Britain and we enter a new Britain. At the end of Season 2, we will have to start thinking about a new cast because our cast will reach a limit about what they can play,” he said. The Oscar-winning director also explained that since the show goes through the years, the main characters will have to be re-cast to keep the authenticity of the characters’ aging.
The series has been rumored as the most expensive production for Sony Pictures TV’s Left Bank Pictures. The show reportedly cost over $150 million.
The first season of The Crown received several honors. Actress Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II) and John Lithgow (Winston Churchill) took home major awards at the SAG Awards. The Netflix series also won two Golden Globe awards including one for Best TV Drama.
The Crown also stars Matt Smith (Prince Philip) and Eileen Atkins (Queen Mary). Season 2 is currently in production. Its premiere date is yet to be announced.
