Barry Allen is heading back to the Speed Force to save Wally and possibly change Iris’ fate in this week’s The Flash season 3 episode 16.

In the previous episode, Savitar was able to trap Wally/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) in the Speed Force. Now, Barry (Grant Gustin) is set to return to the Speed Force to free the Kid Flash. The question now is – will Barry ever come back to Earth 1 again?

Gustin told Entertainment Weekly that Barry will take whatever is necessary to save the Kid Flash. He said:

“He’s willing to make the ultimate sacrifice when he enters the Speed Force. Barry is willing and wants to stay and replace Wally in the Speed Force forever. He thinks it’s what he deserves, to spend the rest of eternity in the Speed Force.”

The actor teased that Barry will face tough challenges in the Speed Force, but things will be much harder for Wally. Should the Team Flash fail to get Wally out of the Speed Force, then they would unwillingly fulfill one of Savitar’s prophecies.

Savitar earlier told The Flash about the prophecies. The God of Speed declared that someone will betray Barry, one will fall, and  another will “suffer a fate far worse than death.” Wally could be the one who suffers a fate that is incomparable to death. Even Cisco Ramon points this out in The Flash 3×15.

Barry Meets Different Faces in the Speed Force in The Flash Season 3 Episode 16

In a season 2 episode titled The Runaway Dinosaur, Barry’s trip into the Speed Force is like a trip to heaven. There, the Speed Force looked like his parents Henry (John Wesley Shipp) and Nora (Michelle Harrison), as well as his other family members, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Iris (Candice Patton).

This time around, it will be entirely different. In a preview of Into the Speed Force, Barry faces the people he thinks he had failed. He will see Ronnie (Robbie Amell) and Eddie (Rick Cosnett) in Speed Force. He will also meet Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller) there.

Gustin added that Eddie, Ronnie and Leonard’s effect on Barry’s psyche is “a pretty drastic one.” But the actor noted that they are just trying to help his character.

Towards the end of the trailer, Ronnie is seen warning Barry to leave the place while he still can. The three will give Barry some tough talk but will also help him save Wally. Gustin told Entertainment Weekly:

“They use different characters that will get under Barry’s skin in a different way, but also they’re just not quite as understanding anymore because of how many decisions Barry has made that have affected time and affected the timeline. So it’s a pretty different Speed Force experience than last year.”

Don’t miss The Flash season 3 episode 16 on Tuesday (Mar. 14) at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
