CW announced the titles of seven shows set to return for another season. Yet is the network eyeing a Superman spin off as well?
The Flash, Jane the Virgin, Supernatural, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Supergirl are coming back for the 2017-2018 TV season. CW made the announcement during the Television Critics Association winter press tour, according to TVLine.
Of the seven, The Flash is the network’s top series. It rakes in over three million viewers weekly. In second place is Supergirl followed by Arrow, Legends, and Supernatural at third.
Odds of Superman Spin off from Supergirl
The arrival of Supergirl to the network gave its lineup a significant boost. More so, with the addition of Superman to cast. Hence, it led to speculation about a spin off series.
Alas, the chances of a Superman spin off is not forthcoming yet. As it turns out, plans for it do not appear to be a priority for the network at this time. Although, CW president Mark Pedowitz praised Tyler Hoechlin and his portrayal of the iconic superhero. Moreover, he said the actor is welcome to return should the Supergirl series want him.
“Tyler did a great job. There’s no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to Supergirl]. If they wish to have him return, we’d love to have him,” Pedowitz said.
“I can’t even answer the question yet because at this time there are no plans to do it and there have been no discussions about it,” Pedowitz added when asked if rights issues held back the chances of a Superman TV spin off.
Then again, Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti seems more open to the idea, Comic Book reports.
Nonetheless, fans would have to wait and see if it eventually happens. At the very least, if Tyler Hoechlin returns for a more permanent status in the series.
Meanwhile, Supergirl season 2 episode 9 titled Roulette Returns is due to return from its midseason hiatus on January 23, Monday. Previously, episode 8 resolved three issues for the series.
