The Crown season 2 cast another big time actor from critically acclaimed series Downton Abbey. Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures, the Netflix show picked Matthew Goode to play Lord Snowdon.

Matthew Goode as Lord Snowdon

The 38-year-old actor will take on the role of Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, then husband of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. He is a British society photographer and filmmaker.

Other details regarding the character are still under wraps. However, based on written history, he is the only son of Ronald Armstrong-Jones, a barrister, and Anne Messel, Countess of Rosse.

In his career, he served as a Sunday Times Magazine artistic adviser. He is also recognized as one of Britain’s most respected professional photographers. In addition, Lord Snowdon has a prolific history for his portrait of world notables.

Furthermore, when it comes to his personal life, Snowdon married twice. After Princess Margaret, he married Lucy Mary Lindsay-Hogg.

His relationship with the princess became one of the notable events in the royal family. The former couple had two children namely David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon and Sarah Armstrong-Jones.

The marriage fell apart because of certain scandals between both parties. Rumor has it that Princess Margaret was drowned in late-night partying while Lord Snowdon faced rumors of being gay or bisexual. However, in Anne de Courcy’s book titled Snowdon: the Biography, he clarified, “I didn’t fall in love with boys — but a few men have been in love with me.”

Antony Armstrong-Jones died peacefully last January 13 at the age of 86. He was buried in the family’s churchyard.
