Cristiano Ronaldo may be an iconic presence in the football field, but it seems the athlete’s charisma will be spreading into another platform. Recent reports suggest that the sport superstar could join Angelina Jolie in a TV drama.
An article from Sky Sports reveals that the Real Madrid star recently made it to the list of cast members for the TV drama Hayat Koprusu. The source quotes series director Eyup Dirlik via Turkish Football:
“We will begin filming in the first week of April, the series is about the plight of a refugee family and what they go through. There will be appearances from actors and actresses from all over the world including Cristiano Ronaldo, Angelina Jolie and (Arabic music star) Nancy Ajram.”
The source further describes the TV show as a story about a Syrian family trying to escape the civil war and head to Turkey. Production of the series takes place in Gaziantep.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Acting
Although there’s no official confirmation about Ronaldo’s involvement yet other than the director’s statement, it is not that surprising. Sky Sports notes of the athlete’s desire to pursue acting. The source quotes him as saying:
“It is [acting] not my objective at the moment, but I have had some invitations. It’s difficult as I have so many training sessions, games and competitions. But I would not close the door, it is something I like.”
A Cause Close to His Heart
Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential commitment to the project is in line with a cause close to his heart. Bleacher Report relays that the Real Madrid star recently made a “generous donation” for Save the Children.
A December 2016 tweet from Ronaldo also reveals a message for the children affected by the conflict in Syria. The athlete says, “Hello, this is for children of Syria. We know that you’ve been suffering a lot. I am a very famous player but you are the true heroes. Don’t lose your hope–the world is with you, we care about you, I am with you.”
For her part, Angelina Jolie also cares deeply about the Syrian refugee crisis. Back in 2015, she criticized the UN security council for its failure to take action in addressing Syria’s conflict.
Last year, the actress continued her humanitarian efforts in helping Syrian refugees. She met with leaders like the prime ministers of Greece and Lebanon to discuss how these countries could assist in providing asylum for those affected by conflict.
At this point, no further details are available about the upcoming TV drama. Stay tuned for more news on Cristiano Ronaldo’s involvement on the series.
