Dr. Spencer Reid will be in big trouble in this week’s Criminal Minds season 12 episode 13. What events await the boy genius?
According to the synopsis for episode 13, one of the BAU team gets in trouble in Mexico. The unit will ask for the help of the International Response Team (IRT), specifically Clara Seger (Alana De La Garza) and Matthew Simmons (Daniel Henney).
It turns out, Dr. Reid (Matthew Gary Gubler) is the BAU member that is in big trouble in a foreign country. The profiler will be arrested and sent to prison over an accusation of murder in Mexico.
According to BuddyTV, a promo for the upcoming episode showed Reid’s stuff all over a motel room. The authorities found his and possibly the victim’s DNA in the room. Apparently, the victim was stabbed over 25 times.
The locals don’t agree with Rossi’s (Joe Mantegna) claim that Reid has been framed for drugs and murder, the publication added. However, Rossi tells the locals that they would also not believe Reid can do such a thing if they knew the doctor.
Another teaser for Criminal Minds season 12 episode 13 featured Reid while in custody in Mexico. He looks lost and has no sleep.
What makes things worse is that he doesn’t have any recollection of the incident. “I can’t remember. I can’t remember anything,” Reid says while behind bars.
What is he doing in Mexico? There have been speculations that the genius profiler could have been taken by an UnSub or got involved with an unknown agency. In order to get Spencer out of this mess, the BAU has reached out to the IRT to assist their agent in Mexico.
Executive Producer Erica Messer earlier hinted that this week’s episode will be an intense one. She told TVLine that episode 13 “launches a journey for [Reid] and for the team that I (Messer) would argue we never even imagined would happen – and yet it happens, and we’re along for this ride. And it’s an intense one.”
Episode 13 titled Spencer was written by Messer. Series star Kristen Vangness who plays Penelope Garcia also helped pen the episode.
Spencer’s Future At The BAU
Vangsness previously teased that episode 13 will be a course changer for a BAU agent. “I seem to co-write the episodes that change the course for people. That does not mean the ends of people, it just changes their course. So [Episode 13] is a course changer,” she told TVLine. The actress also wrote Shemar Moore’s (Derek Morgan) exit episode and Mandy Patinkin’s (Jason Gideon) death plot.
Could this mean that another BAU agent will exit the show this season? Fans are hoping that episode 13 would not pave the way for Reid’s departure from the BAU. Viewers may not be able to handle another departure after the recent exit of Thomas Gibson (Aaron Hotchner).
Don’t miss Criminal Minds season 12 episode 13 on Wednesday, February 15. It airs at 9 p.m. in CBS.
