The Celebrity Apprentice has dropped in viewership rating, now that President-elect Donald Trump is no longer the face of the show.
The Celebrity Apprentice premiered on NBC last Monday night with the new host, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The debut episode raked an average of 4.9 million viewers. It was below the 6.5 million viewers of the previous season which Trump hosted in 2015.
The Bachelor and ESPN’s Rose Bowl are among the toughest competitions of the NBC show in its timeslot. The Bachelor recorded the highest viewership ratings Monday night, with 6.6 million average viewers. The ABC reality TV show premiere also crushed The Celebrity Apprentice by 62% in 18 to 49 years old demographics, CNN reports.
The Apprentice has been a hit when it first premiered in 2004. It garnered an average of 18.5 million viewers at the time.
How Did Arnold Schwarzenegger Perform as Trump Replacement?
Some viewers tuned in to find out what catchphrase Schwarzenegger will use as a replacement to Trump’s “You’re fired,” CNN notes. NBC kept the new catchphrase a top secret until the premiere. The former California governor revealed his own catchphrase, “You’re terminated.”
Moreover, Schwarzenegger also received mediocre reviews from critics. The New York Times television critic Mike Hale suggested one reason why the actor may have underperformed Trump. “With Mr. Schwarzenegger, there’s no joy, just a — you’ll pardon the word — robotic professionalism. His rebukes don’t have enough bite, his stares don’t have enough menace,” he wrote.
Schwarzenegger is hosting the show along with his nephew, Patrick Knapp Schwarzenegger, and supermodel Tyra Banks.
The eight installment of the reality game show features 16 celebrities. The list is composed of Boy George, Laila Ali, Brook Burke-Charvet, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Eric Dickerson, Matt Iseman, Carrie Keagan, Carson Kressley, Lisa Leslie, Jon Lovitz, Vince Neil, Kyle Richards, Chael Sonnen, Porsha Williams, Ricky Williams, and Carnie Wilson.
The winner of this season will receive $250,000. The prize will go charitable institution of his or her choice.
