The Good Fight has assured more courtroom battles coming up as CBS All Access renewed the show for another season.
The show garnered 7.2 million viewers when it premiered on CBS All Access last month. Now, the network has announced the renewal as the show is half-way through its first season. The new season will premiere in 2018.
Deadline cited the statement of Marc DeBevoise, President and COO of CBS Interactive, saying:
“We’re only a few episodes into the first season and the reaction from CBS All Access subscribers and critics alike has been phenomenal. This series and its characters are just beginning, and we can’t wait to see where Robert and Michelle King, their creative team and the amazing cast take The Good Fight next.”
The new series is the first scripted show in CBS All Access. Star Trek: Discovery is also set to join the streaming platform.
The Good Fight picked up one year after the events of The Good Wife finale. The series follows Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) in a predominantly black law firm in Chicago. Dianne’s initial plan is to retire. However, it fell apart and she was forced to rebuild her life after losing her savings in a Ponzi scheme.
Other The Good Wife cast members who starred in the spinoff are Cush Jumbo (Lucca Quinn) and Sarah Steele (Marissa Gold). Gary Cole (Kurt McVeigh) and Matthew Perry (Mike Kresteva) also appeared in the series. The fan-favorite character Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) also appeared in the most recent episode.
The Good Fight Season 1 Episode 5 Recap
Episode 5, titled Stoppable: Requiem for an Airdate, was inspired by NBC delaying the Law and Order SVU episode about a Donald Trump-esque presidential candidate.
Adrian (Delroy Lindo) and Lucca took a case of a TV writer who wrote an episode based on the allegations that Trump assaulted a teenage girl. The network, however, decided not to air the episode for political reasons. In the end, the network agreed to a settlement in which the writer doesn’t have to apologize for leaking the story.
Elsewhere, Mike eventually met the “unorthodox” lawyer who will defend Reddick, Boseman, & Kolstad – Elsbeth Tascioni. Mike warned Elsbeth that it is his practice to personally destroy everyone who comes after him professionally.
Mike thought Elsbeth would back down. But to his surprise, she befriended his wife and even got to enter his study at home.
He once again threatened her that he will tell the bar about what she did. But Elsbeth told him that she recorded his threats against her. Mike is stunned because he has never had someone come after him like this.
