A Castlevania TV series based on the classic video game of the same title comes out in Netlfix this 2017. Only a few details exist about the project, but some information emerged after the streaming service’s announcement.
According to GameSpot, part one launches this year and it involves Fred Seibert. He produced the phenomenal animated series Adventure Time. The series was first hinted in December last year when Seibert made an appearance on the Nick Animation podcast.
During the interview, Seibert spoke about “a project based on one of the most prominent video games in the last 30 years.” Meanwhile, executive producer Adi Shankar also hinted at the project a year before. Announcing on Facebook in 2015, he said:
“I am producing a super-violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It is going to be dark, satirical. After a decade of propaganda, it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.”
The story is penned by the best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis. Along with Ellis and Seibert, the animated series will be executive produced by Shankar and Kevin Kolde. This project is definitely filled with veteran people behind the camera as Shankar is also known for his excellent work in Power Rangers 2015.
Castlevania TV Series Details
As mentioned in the earlier source, the animated series is also helmed by Frederator Studios. It is a company under Wow Unlimited Media. Description for Castlevania reads:
“Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.”
Moreover, according to IGN, Netflix also announced that the new series will be a four-part season. Each episode will apparently run for over 30 minutes. Though Shankar cannot lend any more details, the series will specifically cover Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.
He adds that the series is created in the veins of the HBO series Game of Thrones. It can be remembered that Dracula’s Curse featured Trevor Belmont as he fights Dracula from ravaging Europe in the 1400s. Characters also include Alucard, the son of Dracula.
However, Shankar hinted that the series will probably be Rated R due to its level of violence. He considers this adaptation as an animated series intended for adults and will be the best one he has ever made. Stay tuned for more updates about the Castlevania TV series.
