Viewers shed buckets of tears in the recent This is Us Memphis episode. However, the viewing public is not alone as the cast of the hit NBC drama felt emotional as well.

The cast turned to social media to express how the most emotional episode of the show as of yet affected them. This is Us creator Dan Fogelman shared on Twitter the letter he gave to the cast prior to the airing of the heartwarming episode.

He praised them for their exceptional performances, particularly Ron Cephas Jones (William). He added that they should not be sad about William’s death and cited the dialogue delivered by Justin Hartley’s young character, Kevin.

On Facebook, actor Sterling K. Brown (Randall) revealed he had seen the This is Us Memphis episode a number of times, but it still made him cry. He also gave an emotional message to fans.

“It’s not my goal to like bring you to tears. That happens to be a byproduct of what we do. Tears do happen to come, but I want you to feel. I want you to feel connected and recognize that we’re all in this together, you know? And that no man or woman is an island unto themselves. And if you have family that you haven’t talked to in a while or, friends that you feel that you’ve gotten out of touch with, then call them up.  Let ’em know how much love ’em and how much you care because tomorrow is not promised,” said Brown.

Chrissy Metz (Kate) praised the performances of both Brown and Joneson on Twitter saying she is one of the many who cried watching the episode. Meanwhile, lead actress Mandy Moore (Rebecca Pearson) tweeted before the episode aired and also praised Brown and Jones.

In the recent This is Us Memphis episode, Randall took his cancer-stricken biological father, William, to a road trip to Memphis.

In his last moments of life, William gave Randall his book Poems for My Son. It is the notebook William tried to give to Rebecca for years. Randall, on the other hand, gave his father the comforting assurance of his voice.

He clasped his hands around William’s face like what his dad Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) used to do. Randall then told him to breathe and just breathe.

William Coming Back in This is Us Season 2

Despite the episode, William will return next season. The character appears through flashbacks.

Jones admitted to Glamour that he was worried at first that he wouldn’t get to work with Sterling again. However, knowing that the show revolves around a family story in the past and in the present, his character will meet with Randall once again in season 2. The 60-year-old actor said:

“I don’t have specifics, but I know I’ll be seeing him one way or another, and that’s good enough for me.”

Don’t miss This is Us episodes every Tuesday at 9 p.m. in NBC. The next new episode is scheduled to air on March 7.
