Fans have more to binge-watch this year as Beyond season 2 has been confirmed by Freeform.
Network president Tom Ascheim surprised not only the press but also the show’s cast and producers when he announced Beyond’s renewal. Ascheim said it was an easy decision to bring back the series for another season. The Beyond season 2 announcement was made during the Television Critics Association winter press tour recently.
“Our goal for launching Beyond was to give the audience outstanding content in the way they want to watch it. The response has far exceeded our greatest expectations, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and we can’t wait to bring more Beyond to its growing fan base,” Ascheim said in a statement cited by TVLine.
Beyond follows the life of 25-year-old Holden Matthews (Burkely Duffield). Holden woke up from a 12-year coma and found out that he has new abilities. However, his new found talent takes him into the middle of a conspiracy. Holden tries to find out what happened to him during his coma and how he can survive the world that has changed.
Why Beyond Has Been Renewed
Beyond renewal came days after Freeform released all 10 episodes of season 1 for binge online following its television debut last Jan. 2. According to Freeform, Beyond garnered 14 million views in its first week alone. The figure includes 7.0 million across the digital platforms and 7.2 million total viewers on linear TV.
“The reason why so many people are embracing the show is because of, again, this cast, and these people,” executive producer Adam Nussdorf said.
The Hollywood Reporter, on the other hand, notes that Beyond marks a win for Freeform after several one-season-only shows. Freeform’s hit shows Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth are also set to bid their farewell this year.
Aside from Duffield, Beyond cast also includes Michael McGrady, Romy Rosemont, Jonathan Whitesell, Dilan Gwyn, and Jeff Pierre. Tim Kring (Heroes) also co-created the show along with David Eick, Steven Adelson, Dan Friedkin, Justin Levy, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.
The new episodes of Beyond are still airing every week on a regular TV schedule every Mondays at 9/8c in Freeform. Beyond season 2 has no official premiere date as of yet.
