Bones season 12 star David Boreanaz will have a little time to rest after the Fox hit series ends.
The actor has been confirmed to star in the upcoming CBS’ Navy SEAL drama pilot. The casting comes a week ahead of Bones series finale. Boreanaz starred in Fox procedural drama for 12 seasons as FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth.
Boreanaz was tapped to replace Jim Caviezel, who was cast earlier for the lead role. Caviezel has a long working relationship with CBS after he starred in the network’s Person Of Interest. But according to Deadline, the actor left the new project over creative differences.
The series will follow the lives of the elite Navy SEALs as they train, plan, and execute the most dangerous and high-stakes missions to protect the country.
Boreanaz will play Jason, the well-respected and committed leader of a team who’s been through over a dozen deployments. According to Variety, the show stars Max Theriot (Bates Motel) as Clay, an arrogant millennial SEAL but with deep insecurities.
Other cast members include Neil Brown Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), who will play Ray, Jason’s best buddy and colleague. A.J. Buckley (Justified) will be Sonny, a self-destructive but loyal fighter, while Toni Trucks (Franklin & Bash) will portray Diaz, the team’s logistics officer. Finally, Jessica Paré (Mad Men) will be Mandy, an extremely intelligent CIA analyst.
Ben Cavell (Homeland) penned the script and will executive produce the show alongside Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly. Chris Chulack (Shameless, ER) will also exec produce and direct the pilot.
Boreanaz is not new in high-action TV series. Aside from Bones, he also appeared in as a vampire-turned-private investigator in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff titled Angel.
The actor might also direct one or two episodes of his upcoming series since he also directed multiple episodes in Bones, including the upcoming series finale.
