Ronda Rousey is coming back on television but not into the MMA ring. She has been tapped for a guest role in Blindspot season 2.
The MMA fighter is set to appear in episode 20 which is scheduled to air in May. Rousey will be playing the role of a female prison inmate named Devon Penberthy. Devon is from a blue-collar family in New Hampshire and is in jail for transporting weapons across state lines.
NBC described the character as a “tough, athletic woman who knows how to fight and handle a weapon.” It is unclear whether Devon will be a friend or an enemy of Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and Jane’s (Jaimie Alexander) FBI team.
This is not Rousey’s first acting gig. She previously appeared in several movies already including The Expendables 3, Furious 7, and Entourage, TV Guide noted. Last year, she hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live and also appeared in Comedy Central’s Drunk History.
Rousey has been out of the spotlight since her New Year’s Eve loss in the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. Amanda Nunes took down the UFC women’s bantamweight champion in just 50 seconds.
She lost her last two fights by knockout. She was defeated by Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015 and her most recent loss was with Nunes. Rousey has yet to make an announcement with regards to her future in MMA but UFC President Dana White previously said that he believes Rousey’s fighting career is “probably done.”
Blindspot Season 2 Episode 15 Preview
In this week’s episode titled Draw O Caesar, Erase a Coward, Patterson (Ashley Johnson) deciphers another tattoo in Jane’s body but their new mission might cost the life of one member of the team.
In episode 15, the team will split into unlikely pairs to chase a dangerous courier. Weller will work alongside Roman (Luke Mitchell) while Patterson teams up with Reade (Rob Brown). Jane and Zapata (Audrey Esparza) will set aside their differences for a while.
In a sneak peek for episode 15, the team is seen engaging in a shootout with some armed men in what looks like a port. The promo hinted a potentially deadly encounter that could cost one of the members’ life and the shooter may be one of their own. Towards the end of the teaser, Zapanta is seen shot and Jane is running towards her.
Will all of them come out alive? Or will someone from the team bite the dust? Don’t miss Blindspot season 2 episode 15 on Wednesday, February 22 at 8 p.m. in NBC.
