Bates Motel Season 5 Premiere, Trailer– What is it all about?

“Norman is a good boy and knows how to keep his mother cool.” — A&E

Arts and Entertainment network (A&E) released a new trailer for Bates Motel last January 9. Since then, fans started wondering if the show will recreate David Hitchcock’s famous Psycho film.

“Will this lead up to and recreate the events of psycho? or end right where Psycho starts?”  Connor Landrum commented. Another fan seems to predict what the showrunners plan for the fifth and last season. She noted, “this final season will lead up to and recreate the events of the original Psycho.”

In the previous interview of Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin, both noted that the final season will somewhat cross paths with the Psycho film. Cuse noted in The Hollywood Reporter that the events connected to the film will “lead to an ultimate resolution.”

“…that resolution is and how that plays out is something that will be not disconnected to the movie Psycho but will be very much our own story in the same way the entire series has been.”

On the other hand, the executive producers appear determined to hide other hints about the last chapter. Though the trailer gives bits of information through a tour of the Bates’ family home, it limits the character’s dialogue into six words. “Six creepy words” from the characters hinting that this season will bring darker and more sinister episodes.

What We Know So Far about Season 5

There have been many reports about the series. Before its premiere, here are the things we gathered so far from the cast, EPs, and spoilers.

First, the series will have a two-year time jump from when Norma (Vera Farmiga) died, Deadline reports. Norman (Freddie Highmore) is now a grown-up. He’s visibly happy even after all that happened to him.

However, the site also noted that behind all these happiness is the boy’s worsening condition. The source notes that the blackouts and hallucinations all lead to his “mother” taking over his mind completely.

Moreover, Emma (Olivia Cooke) and Dylan (Max Theriot) are still oblivious of Norma’s death but later on, they will be drawn back to Norman’s insanity. Meanwhile, Sheriff Romero is still after his revenge for his wife’s death.

On the other hand, another character played by The Walking Dead alum Austin Nichols will appear in the series. He will play White Pine Bay new comer Sam Loomis, sister of Madeleine (Isabelle McNally) and Marion Crane’s (Rihanna) boyfriend.

Bates Motel season 5 premiere date is on February 20 on A&E.
