Bates Motel Season 5 Promo Reveals Rihanna’s Marion Crane, Know About the Iconic Character Here

Bates Motel season 5 promo

Marion Crane finally appears in the new Bates Motel season 5 promo. Rihanna will play the iconic character.

A&E released a teaser for the fifth and final season of Bates Motel and one of the new characters seen in the clip is Marion. In the promo, Marion asks Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) if she could get a room to which Norman replies, “Yeah, absolutely,” before giving her a room key. The next scene showed Norman peeping through a hole in the wall of Marion’s room.

Announcement for Rihanna’s casting surfaced during the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2016. Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin previously said they wanted to redefine the character in a meaningful and exciting way, Entertainment Tonight noted. The EPs added that Rihanna has been a fan of the A&E series and they were also a huge fan of the singer.

Meanwhile, Bates Motel season 5 will pick up nearly two years after Norman murdered his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga). He is now a grown man, who is also living a double life.

Norman appears as a happy and well-adjusted resident of White Pine Bay community. At home, however, he struggles as his violent blackouts continue to escalate and the “Mother” threatens to take over his mind completely.

What You Should Know About Rihanna’s Marion Crane Character

Marion Crane was first portrayed by actress Janet Leigh in the 1960s Alfred Hitchcock film, Psycho. Anne Heche then played the character in the 1998 remake.

Leigh won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role. She was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress as well.

In the 1960s movie, Marion is Norman’s first victim. When she checked in at Bates Motel, Norman invited her to have dinner with him. Marion then overheard an argument between Norman and his mother about letting Marion into the house.

Consequently, Norman murdered Marion while under the control of an alternate personality. Apparently, when Norman felt attracted to Marion, the “Mother” personality became jealous and killed her. In the end, Norman was institutionalized.

Marion also appeared in Psycho sequels–one in 1983 and another in 1986. Her shower scene was also shown in flashbacks. However, the character made no appearance in the final film Psycho IV: The Beginning. She was merely referred to as “the girl [Norman] killed in the shower”.
