American Horror Story Season 7 Creator Adds New Series to Slate

American Horror Story season 7
Ryan Murphy

American Horror Story season 7 is still a long way. However, fans of Ryan Murphy may turn their attention to another work of his as a new series from the AHS showrunner is also on the way.

Deadline first reported on the new series from Murphy. According to the source, the creator will produce FX’s Pose alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Deadline relays the following description of the series:

“Set in 1986, Pose examines the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York City: the emergence of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.”

The new series eyes a 2018 premiere with production scheduled to begin in October. Aside from producing, Murphy will also serve as director for the series’ first episode. In addition, he also takes in writing duties with Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals.

While Murphy usually collaborates with familiar actors for his other series, Deadline reports that the cast will be different for Pose. Namely, the series will feature mostly new or relatively unknown talents.

American Horror Story Season 7 Updates

Following the secrecy that surrounded season 6, it appears people involved with the show are also carrying the secrecy over to American Horror Story season 7. Hence, there are not much details known.

Nevertheless, Murphy sometimes offers little tidbits about the show. One interesting bit he shared pointed to season 7 being about the 2016 US presidential election. He detailed this in Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where he said:

“I don’t have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through. So I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”

Who Should Play Trump?

When the host asks if there will be a Trump character in the upcoming season, Murphy gives a non-committal “maybe.” Since news of the tidbit broke out, fans have been speculating about who could be cast in the known roles.

Murphy clarified that Sarah Paulson won’t play Hillary Clinton. Paulson is a staple in Ryan Murphy’s series, appearing in AHS and American Crime Story. However, the series creator said that they are eyeing a different actress for the Clinton role.

Meanwhile as for the part of Trump, fans have been considering Kathy Bates for the role. Though the thought is interesting, the actress is not open to the idea. Bloody Disgusting relays Bates’ statement saying:

“I know Ryan Murphy is doing something about the election. You know, my eyes popped open when he said that. No. I don’t think I’ll be playing Donald Trump. You know, I’m going to leave that to Alec Baldwin. I think he’s doing a smash job.”
