Actor Matthew Broderick has inked a deal to star in the upcoming American Crime Story season 2. Learn the details of his role here.
The second installment of American Crime Story will revolve around the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It hit Louisiana and severely damaged the US Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas in 2005.
Broderick will be playing the role of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Michael D. Brown. He was in charge of the government’s response to the disaster at the time, Entertainment Weekly wrote.
Brown was widely criticized by the people both in Louisiana and by the media for his slow relief response efforts. He subsequently resigned from his post following an investigation on the disaster responses from federal, state, and local governments.
Broderick is known for providing the adult voice of Simba in The Lion King trilogy. He also appeared in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Godzilla, Glory, and War Games.
The Tony-winning actor also starred in last year’s Academy Awards Best Picture nominee Manchester by the Sea and in the critically acclaimed movie, You Can Count on Me alongside Laura Linney. He also appeared in several TV series such as 30 Rock and Modern Family.
Broderick joins Annette Bening in American Crime Story season 2. Bening will portray Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco, E! News noted. The actress will reportedly appear in all upcoming seasons of ACS.
Executive producer Ryan Murphy also hinted that American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpon star Sarah Paulson may also appear in season 2. He added several actors from the O.J. Simpson season will also appear in the second run of ACS.
Murphy revealed that he is working to have This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown in American Crime Story season 2. Brown appeared in season 1 as Christopher Darden, who was assigned to the prosecution of Simpson. Katrina: American Crime Story is expected to air in 2018.
More American Crime Story Seasons in the Making
Murphy recently confirmed that ACS season 4 will tackle Monica Lewinsky’s narrative of her affair with former US President Bill Clinton. He also confirmed that Paulson will be part of the season, though he clarified she will not be playing former first lady Hillary Clinton.
Murphy and Paulson have a long working history. The two worked together in The People v. O.J. Simpson and in all seasons of American Horror Story.
“Sarah will be in it but she won’t be playing Hillary [Clinton]. That’s earmarked for talks with somebody else. We’re casting that now. I can’t say what Sarah is playing, but it starts shooting at the end of this year,” said Murphy.
Meanwhile, season 3 will tackle the assassination of fashion icon Gianni Versace in 1997. Murphy had already confirmed that Lady Gaga will not portray Donatella Versace in season 3.
