Stranger Things became a massive hit for subscribers of Netflix. However, it was no match for another original series from the streaming service.
Newsweek recently detailed the top 25 original streaming shows of 2016. While fan favorite Stranger Things was an instant hit among viewers, it was still no match for Orange is the New Black.
According to the source, the series’ fourth season alone garnered 23 million streams for its first 35 days of release. Meanwhile, Stranger Things came at second with 21.7 million streams.
Fuller House, meanwhile, ranked third with the series having been streamed for 21.5 million times. Taking the fourth and fifth spots are two of Marvel’s Netflix entries.
Luke Cage came fourth with 12.1 million streams while Daredevil followed with 11.6 million streams. It is worth noting that there is a major discrepancy between the top three and the rest of those in the lineup.
The remainder of the top 10 shows are the following, in order: House of Cards season 4, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2, The Ranch, 11.22.63, and Amanda Knox.
Interestingly, all but one of the top 10 shows came from Netflix. The odd one out from the list is Hulu’s 11.22.63 starring James Franco.
The series adapts Stephen King’s novel of the same name which tells the story of a high school teacher who can travel to the past. Owing to a late friend’s wish, he aims to change the course of history by saving John F. Kennedy from assassination.
Other shows that made it to the top 25 include The Crown, Narcos, Gracie and Frankie season 2, Black Mirror season 3 and Longmire season 5. For the full list, check out Newsweek’s article here.
Stranger Things Season 2 Updates
Despite only turning in second, Stranger Things could still be considered a big winner with its impact in pop culture. The series stars became instant household names. Consequently, majority of the series’ elements emerged as favorite references by discussions on the Internet.
Photos for the series recently surfaced in time for its upcoming second season. Among the set, Nerdist took notice of the one where Sadie Sink’s character, Max, appears. The photo does not reveal much except that Max will likely go to school or be friends with Mike and the rest of the gang.
Given her age, she’ll most likely be a part of the kids’ group. Will she be a friend or a foe? Fans will find out when Stranger Things season 2 premieres in October 31.
