The arrival of Doctor Who season 11 will not happen anytime soon. Yet talk about who the next Time Lord could be is rampant. Now, incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall finally speaks up about it.
Early hints teased at Peter Capaldi’s likely exit in conjunction with exiting showrunner Steven Moffat. However, the Scottish star only confirmed it recently.
Consequently, it paved the way for many to share their views on who should take his place in Doctor Who season 11. Yet curiously, the man who will take over as showrunner has yet to comment on the matter. Until now.
Chris Chibnall on Doctor Who Season 11 Doctor
As it turns out, Peter Capaldi could have remained as the Time Lord of Doctor Who season 11. Apparently, new showrunner Chibnall almost had him convinced to sign up for another season. Yet Capaldi opted otherwise. Hence, his and Moffat’s last run as the Time Lord and showrunner, respectively, starts April 15 on BBC One.
Nonetheless, fans can rest assured the new Doctor Who boss has a clear vision for the future of the long running sci-fi series. Then again, Chibnall said it is too soon to tell if the next Time Lord will be a woman.
“The creative possibilities are endless, but I have a very clear sense of what we’re going to do, without even knowing who’s going to play the part,” Digital Spy cited Chibnall’s response to The Telegraph.
“We’ll cast the role in the traditional way: write the script, then go and find the best person for that part in that script. You couldn’t go out and cast an abstract idea.”
Odds Highly Favor Tilda Swinton as Doctor Who Season 11 Time Lord
A male actor has always played the role of Time Lord throughout the history of Doctor Who. Yet over the years, the pressure from fans to make the next Doctor a female continued to grow. Could this be the opportune time to do so, considering former actors who played the character voiced their respective choices for female actresses?
Interestingly, it seems the choice of Paul McGann, the eighth regeneration of the Time Lord already has a strong following among punters. According to Screen Rant, Tilda Swinton is the odds-on favorite for the Doctor Who season 11 doctor. The actress overtook James Bond actor Ben Whishaw who was the early favorite when news of Capaldi’s exit broke.
